Ask the Doctor Series: Lose weight for the summer… It’s not too late!

Dr. Greg Weckenbrock’s advice:

It’s not too late to add a healthier lifestyle and weight loss to your summer goals. Below are some physician recommended tips on losing weight and feeling great:

Drink Plenty of Water

Did you know water makes up 60% of your body weight?

Water benefits your body by carrying nutrients to cells and flushing toxins out of vital organs. Dr. Weckenbrock recommends drinking at least 64oz per day.

Make Wise Food Choices

Eat a well-balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, whole- grains, and lean proteins. Our practice recommends at least 5 servings of fruits and/or vegetables daily; 6 servings of whole-grain foods; minimal high fat foods from animal sources; and limit the amount of simple sugars in your diet.

Start exercising and increase your activity levels

Try to exercise or increase your activity level to 4 or 5 days per week. It is important for you to increase your heart rate and keep it elevated for 30-45 minutes. In the summer, the pool is an excellent choice for cardiovascular exercise and strengthening and it’s easy on the joints. Get out and walk / jog / run.
