Working Out in the New Year

only workout you regret

Incorporating both cardio and light-weight resistance training are key elements of a healthy lifestyle.   It helps the body retain muscle, is great for your heart, and releases all those feel-good endorphins!  Experts recommend 30-45 minutes of exercise five times per week for optimal health benefits.  But everyone needs to start somewhere so we’ve looked up some exercise groups and other ideas to get you started on the right foot!

  • Check out Runner’s Club of Cincinnati or TriState Running Group to keep up-to-date with new running groups as they’re added, learn about local trails, and local races!
  • Take advantage of great online deals from websites like Groupon or LivingSocial.  Local gyms and studios all over the area offer specials and trials. Here are a couple quick examples of what you’ll find:

  • When the weather gets warm, check out your local park to see what sort of outdoor fitness activities they’ll be offering.  Washington Park in downtown Cincinnati offers free Zumba and yoga classes (weather-permitting.)

  • The Internet is a great resource to check out videos from home.  Subscribe to the YouTube BeFit channel for a wide variety of exercise videos, or check out ones from well-known trainers like Jillian Michaels.
